The story of Monmouth Conservation Foundation (MCF) begins in 1977 with its founding as a visionary land trust to save open space from overdevelopment and sprawl and preserve and protect wildlife, natural habitats, and waterways. To date, nearly a half-century later, we have collaboratively preserved more than 9,400 acres of green space in Monmouth County (or the size of 11 Central Parks). This includes over 4,300 acres or 1/4 of Monmouth County Parklands. We also responsibly and consistently oversee the protection of critical natural resources on approximately 1,100 acres of protected lands through 46 easements.

Still at risk are 20,000 acres of undeveloped, not yet preserved land across the county (the size of Colts Neck Township and just 7% of Monmouth’s total footprint). We have no time to waste in pursuing the vital projects that will protect it.

In 2020 MCF embarked upon an essential, four-year, $8.25 million comprehensive campaign to protect and preserve land – while we still have it – through a variety of key projects that will improve the quality of life for residents – human and wildlife – across Monmouth County. Funds raise through the For Monmouth For Our Future campaign will assist MCF in creating and revitalizing parks, safeguarding our water

supplies, and preserving farmland, open space, and wildlife habitats. Additionally, MCF is growing future conservationists through educational programming offered free to schools.
